Sorta. The code for Intel processors is almost completely assembly,
hand-optimized for each processor (486, P5, P6). All other clients
that have been released so far are written in C, and use -O3
optimization during compilation. (Certainly the compiler optimization
speeds things up, but nothing like it will with hand-optimized
assembler.)
