keymaster down? sleepy? slow?

I am getting extremely intermittent responce from the keymaster server now.
I guess someone is probably on it already so this announcement probably
serves no purpose but to open a discussion on what to do about this.

(60% of my servers on this have stopped their searching. ACK!)

Anyone have inside info on what the scoop is? Justin?

What happens now, do they keep querying til it comes back up? How often
do they query? how do you avoid a mass of 10000 clients querying all at
once, is there some falloff and surge times or random scatter ranges
for retry?

Perhaps we could, since there is still ample keyspace available,
register for 2 or 4 or 8 slices of the keyspace, and have those
others expire in chunks of 2 or 4 or whatever times longer.

(if I understand correctly, if your machine suddenly becomes loaded after
having guessed on some 45-90min loop size to search, then
the keyspace you have may expire just because you've slowed down.
Could we have a 3 or 4 hour timeout for the same scaling in case of sudden
loads, until the keyspace is alot closer to being completely searched?)

Also, perhaps alternate and multiple servers could be setup to
handle the traffic since it seems the current one is being battered
to all hell. (Now arent you sorry you released the 486 clients! :)
(my brother's 386/sx40 linux PPP gateway gets a whopping 5500keys/s. ha!)
