Re: Forcing 2^31 keys/block

DES Challenge Lists (deslists@dopey.verser.frii.com)

There has been a little disinformation (and a little correct information)
in this thread.

The server's behavior is subject to change without notice. The
behavior has changed in the past for the benefit of the project, and
it will likely change in the future.

1. The non-bitslice clients simply cannot process more than 2^30
pairs of keys at a time. The server should *never* give a keyspace larger
than 2^30 keyspaces to a non-bitslice client.

2. At the present time, the keyspace used by a client usually does not
decrease in size. Once it has peaked at 2^30 pairs, it will generally
not decrease.

3. If the client is finishing in 45 minutes, running a 2nd copy should
cause them each to take about 90 minutes. I don't wish to encourage this,
but if there are serious operational troubles running a single client with
a 45-minute completion, give it a shot.

Cheers!
